Not all companies have tasks that require a full-time employee, one-time projects such as seasonal marketing campaigns or audits are some examples of this. In these cases, many companies turn to freelancers to get these projects done and are often impressed with the final result but unhappy with the headache associated.

For those who enjoy the freedom of a freelance worker but want accountability for their projects, full-service BPO companies offer hourly and project-based services. These services are akin to a freelancer in the sense that you don’t have to take on permanent staff but also include the oversight of full-time staff.

If you’re on the fence about whether or not you have a task that could take advantage of these services, there are a lot of jobs and tasks that other businesses hire hourly and project-based workers for.

Customer Service

One of the more popular jobs to hire on an hourly basis would be seasonal customer service roles. Customer service departments need to ramp up around peak seasons in order to accommodate the growing number of sales during holiday seasons. During holidays such as Valentine’s Day, there is a noticeable increase in customer inquiries in the week leading up to the event, having an appropriate number of customer service agents helps handle the influx of calls. This is where Call Center Service Providers come in, they help manage the season’s rush and get you through peak seasons smoothly – ultimately keeping your customers happy.

Finance

Similar to seasonal customer service jobs, the finance industry has times where there is an influx of work, namely tax season. There are CPAs, Bookkeepers, and a whole assortment of positions that can be hired to alleviate the pressure on your financial department during tax season. Hiring remote accountants at a cost-effective rate with the added bonus of manager oversight ensures that your tax season goes smoothly.

Other jobs involve hourly projects. Start-up companies who want to supplement their department, but don’t want to take on full-time employees avail of this service in order to help their business. Accounting coordinators are an example of another position that can be done for businesses, especially start-ups that want to properly manage their financial records.

Web and Software Development

Web development projects are usually only hired on a per-project basis, as they are usually too big to be done on an hourly basis, but it isn’t unheard of. Many companies have a custom HRIS built by remote developers on a project basis. The project-based developers do the heavy lifting for the system and when they finish, your dedicated developers can take over and just keep it operational.

Websites can be built on either project or per hour basis. Having 1 dedicated developer on a website means everything will remain consistent. On the other hand, developers on a per-hour basis can be switched out at the end of the allotted time for another developer if you are looking to go in a different direction with the website.

Design Projects

Design can be done hourly or on a per-project basis. You, as a client, have to decide which is the best option for you. Bigger jobs that take longer might be better suited to a project style of payment as an hourly rate may get expensive. To expedite the process, providing a clear brief for the project helps the designers immensely.

Finding a specialist that fits your needs is challenging and the oversight and collaboration needed may require more time than initially thought. In these cases, hiring through a full-service BPO will allow for better communication and oversight, without the numerous hours you’d need with a freelancer. This isn’t to say you won’t need to set aside time to work with your remote staff designer, it just means you’ll get away with spending less time with them while still seeing the results you’re looking for.

Video Editing

These projects get a section separate from design as they’ve evolved over the years. With editors being in high demand due to the overwhelming amount of content creators popping up in recent years, editors’ skillsets have grown to fit their market’s needs.

These jobs are usually project-based and, depending on the editor’s skills, may either be done quickly or take some time. Having some sort of idea of how you want the video to flow, or having a storyboard ready that you can show the editor will also help expedite the project timeframe.

The projects range from video ads, interviews, short films, and any videos you need to be edited. The software needed will already be provided by the BPO of your choice and an expert will be assigned to do your project. Drafts will be sent over to you to ensure that the project matches your vision and the project is officially over once you are passed the final draft.

The Wrap Up

All of these jobs are commonly outsourced to BPO companies all the time. This doesn’t mean that these are the only jobs that can be outsourced on an hourly or per-project basis. If you’re curious as to what jobs are available under these service types, make sure to reach out to your BPO partner of choice and inquire. Oftentimes they will make it work or suggest alternatives that fit your needs.
